The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the region from 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3 to 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4. Residents are advised to be weather aware and urged to protect the four Ps for winter safety:
People: check on the elderly and those who may not have access to heat
Pets: bring pets indoors
Pipes: properly insulate exposed pipes to prevent cracking
Plants: cover plants with fabric to help keep them insulated
There is a potential for light freezing rain and sleet. Icy conditions may develop – especially along elevated roads, bridges and overpasses – Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.
The coldest nights for Missouri City are expected to be Thursday night into Friday morning, and Friday night into Saturday morning, with temperatures in the 20s. The wind chill will make those overnight temperatures seem colder.
Public Works stands ready to treat roadways, if necessary. Fort Bend County will open a warming center tomorrow, Feb. 3, and Friday, Feb. 4, at the Friends of North Rosenberg Resource Center, 1908 Ave. E, in Rosenberg. Hours of operation are 6 pm to 7 am.
