MCTX Municipal Court Re-Opened to the Public; Staff Using COVID-19 Operational Guidelines

06/09/2020

As the State of Texas continues to open back up during the COVID-19 pandemic, the MCTX Municipal Court has re-opened its doors to the public, using State guidelines for operations. Over the past few months, hearings have been conducted virtually, however all hearings are now in person.

To ensure the health and safety of all staff and visitors to the Court lobby, the following measures are in place:

  • Social distancing while in line
  • Hand sanitizer is available
  • The lobby is disinfected every afternoon
  • Although not required, face coverings are strongly encouraged in the lobby

When court is in session, the following measures are in place:

  • Face coverings are required during trials
  • Social distancing while seated; there is a limited capacity in the courtroom
  • Hand sanitizer is available
  • Sneeze guards are placed between the defendants and the prosecutor, judge, and clerk
  • Individual temperature checks are performed before each session
  • Court times are staggered to ensure low occupancy
  • Defendants are asked to not bring any individual to court unless he or she is providing physical assistance
  • To maintain proper social distancing, there are no trials by jury at this time
