Fort Bend County has lowered its COVID-19 Risk Level from Moderate/Significant (Orange) to Low/Moderate (Yellow). At a press conference yesterday, County Judge KP George announced that, due to the public’s diligence in wearing face masks and getting vaccinated, County numbers “are getting better” and community risk of contracting the disease is low to moderate. The County recognizes Yellow as the level at which residents can resume careful contact with others. However, Judge George cautioned residents must continue to follow CDC guidelines for mask wearing, physical distancing and other safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Missouri City’s Glenn Lakes Pharmacy reports having extra doses of the Pfizer vaccine available today, April 14th. Dr. Mona Finley, owner, said she has at least 50 surplus doses for people age 16 and over. Walk-ins are welcome.

The County’s lowered risk assessment comes as the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is asking vaccine providers in the state to pause administration of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine, based on recommendations from federal officials. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urged halting use of the J&J vaccine due to concerns over six cases of a “rare and severe” type of blood clot in U.S. patients, including one death.

Anyone who has received the J&J vaccine and experienced severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath within three weeks after being vaccinated should contact their health-care provider.

The number of Texans being vaccinated against COVID-19 continues to rise. Last week 1,150,175 Texans received inoculations.  As of March 29, all adults in Texas are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Missouri City offices are now open to the public, but City staff and visitors are still required to wear masks, visit temperature check stations and follow social distancing and other guidelines put forth by Dr. Joe Anzaldua, Local Health Authority, as part of the City’s reopening plan.

Per Dr. Anzaldua, COVID-19 cases continue to decline and hospitalizations appear to be declining, both statewide and locally; case Fatality Rate remains flat.
