Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Fort Bend County Judge KP George issued a “Declaration of Local Disaster for Public Health Emergency” on Thursday, March 12. The “state of disaster for public health emergency” is in effect for a “period of not more than seven days unless continued or renewed by the Commissioners Court of Fort Bend County.” This declaration activates the Fort Bend County emergency management plan. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing and shortness of breath and, in some cases, the virus has caused death.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo also signed a declaration of local disaster for public health emergency on Wednesday, March 11.
