County Opens COVID-19 Vaccine Hub

02/02/2021

Fort Bend County has partnered with Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital to offer a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination hub at Smart Financial Centre. Previously a COVID testing site, the hub is now open to vaccinate individuals age 65 or older and others who fall within the State’s Phase 1B  guidelines. Patients will be seen by appointment only; walk-ins are not allowed.

Although appointments quickly filled up when registration opened this morning, the County is expected to receive more doses of the vaccine. To register or to learn more about the vaccine rollout, visit http://bit.ly/3pK2cMJ.

At last night’s Virtual Regular City Council Meeting, Fire and Rescue Services Acting Chief Mario Partida gave an update on the City’s COVID-19 response. As of Jan. 21, 2021, 4047 Missouri City residents have tested positive for COVID-19, with 748 active cases and 75 deaths. Demand for the vaccine is high right now, but supplies are limited and the City is not a vaccination provider. The State is working to deliver additional supplies.

This week, Fort Bend County will get a one-time allotment of 30,000 vaccines. These doses were set aside for long-term care facilities but were not needed. The doses will go to Fort Bend County Public Health, Memorial Hermann and Houston Methodist in Sugar Land. It is unknown when the County will move to Phase 1C of vaccine distribution, as State officials will make that determination.

Vaccines On the Way in Fight Against COVID-19

01/22/2021

A note from Missouri City Acting Fire and Rescue Services Chief Mario Partida, who is leading the City’s vaccine response:

The City has received many questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, from its safety to where and when residents can expect to receive their inoculations.

Texas is currently in Phase 1A and 1B of COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

Phase 1A includes:

  • first responders
  • health care workers in hospital settings
  • health care workers in long-term care facilities
  • EMS
  • outpatient medical staff
  • urgent care staff
  • last responders (funeral/mortuary services)
  • school nurses
  • residents of long-term care facilities

Phase 1B covers:

  • people age 65 years and older
  • people 16 years of age and older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for severe illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as but not limited to:
    • cancer
    • chronic kidney disease
    • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
    • heart conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
    • solid organ transplantation
    • obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher)
    • pregnancy
    • sickle cell disease
    • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Phases 1C and 2 cover additional supply, and Phase 3 is broad supply of the vaccine, whereby regular citizens without health issues can be vaccinated. It is presently expected that Texas will not be at Phase 2 or 3 until summer.

Fort Bend County received nearly 6,000 doses of the vaccine this week. About 5,000 residents who already signed up for the vaccine will get those doses. To sign up for the vaccine, visit www.fbchealth.org.

The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses. Missouri City Fire & Rescue Services want to help remind our seniors about the importance of getting their second vaccination in the series, and will be dropping off reminder cards at local senior living centers and group homes.

MCTX COVID-19 News Conference/Vaccine

01/20/2021

COVID-19 Update: The City held it’s first COVID briefing of the year. Fort Bend County has now crossed Gov. Abbott’s COVID-19 hospitalization threshold. Therefore, most businesses and restaurants must roll back to 50 percent occupancy. Other businesses, such as bars, must CLOSE. Executive Order GA-28 is still in effect, prohibiting all gatherings of more than 10 people. The City plans to conduct these briefings every three weeks.

MCTX COVID-19 Update: Risk Level, Positive Cases, Vaccines, Testing Sites

01/15/2021

As the COVID-19 vaccine is rolled out in our area, Missouri City’s community risk level for the disease remains RED. A recent rise in the hospitalization rate means local businesses must limit their capacity to 50 percent, and bars must close. Executive Order GA-28 is still in effect, prohibiting all gatherings of more than 10 people.

“The City’s response is fielded and rooted in science,” said Odis Jones, CEO/City Manager. “The most current data on the disease is reviewed by leadership on a daily basis and is factored into decisions on City operations. To date, the  total number of COVID-19 cases in Missouri City is 3,582. Seventy-five residents have died.”

Dr. Joe Anzaldua, MD, the City’s medical authority, urges all residents to get one of the two Coronavirus vaccines approved by the FDA, even if you already had COVID-19. During the City’s first COVID-19 briefing of the year delivered last week at City Hall, Dr. Anzaldua said: “The vaccine is being rolled out in phases. Those eligible to be vaccinated now as part of Phase 1 include frontline workers, residents of long-term care facilities and those older than 65 years of age.”

Residents seeking to get vaccinated can visit the Texas Department of Health and Human Services at https://bit.ly/2Na76Es or call (832) 471-1373.

The vaccine is also being offered locally at Glenn Lakes Pharmacy; to sign up, log onto https://www.tinyurl.com/glpvaccine.

The Red threat level means residents must continue to take all necessary precautions to stop the spread of the virus. That means wearing their masks, washing their hands and watching their social distancing. The City is providing free personal protective equipment (PPE) to residents; to receive a kit, call (281) 403-8500.

Missouri City remains committed to keeping citizens safe during the pandemic. If residents are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (fever/chills, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste/smell, muscle/body aches), they are urged to get tested for COVID-19. Here are some local testing sites:

  • CVS Drugstore, 2781 Dulles Ave. & 1610 Cartwright Rd.
  • Best Health Urgent Care & Clinic, 3003 Texas Pkwy., Unit B
  • Excel Urgent Care, 6840 Hwy. 6
  • Next Level Urgent Care—Sienna, 8720 Hwy. 6, #400
  • UT Physicians Multispecialty—Sienna, 8810 Hwy. 6, #100
