Bitter Cold Snap Coming to SE Texas

02/11/2021

The National Weather Service predicts a stretch of below-normal temperatures for Southeast Texas over the weekend and next week, with a strong likelihood of winter precipitation Sunday night and Monday.

A surface cold front rolled into the area last night. Temperatures will continue to drop to near freezing Saturday night, dipping below freezing inland on Sunday night. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are possible Sunday night into Monday, creating hazardous conditions. Monday evening is forecast to be the coldest of the upcoming days, with temperatures dropping into the teens to lower 20s. Below-freezing temperatures are expected to continue through next Wednesday.

The prolonged period of below-freezing weather means residents should focus on protecting the “4 Ps” – people, pets, plants, and pipes. Dress in layers and minimize time outdoors. Bring in all pets and potted plants. Wrap pipes with insulation. For more tips on guarding against cold weather, visit the National Weather Service at https://www.weather.gov/safety/cold.
