Severe Thunderstorms Expected Later Today & Overnight

03/21/2022

3.21.22 overview

The National Weather Service predicts strong to severe thunderstorms late this afternoon, Monday, March 21, into overnight hours in the Southeast Texas region. A Wind Advisory is currently in effect for Missouri City until 7 p.m. tonight and a Flash Flood Watch will be in effect for the Harris County area from 7 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 22.

3.21.22 flash flood harris

Severe thunderstorms are officially defined as storms that are capable of producing hail that is an inch or larger or wind gusts over 58 mph. Hail this size could possibly damage property such as plants, roofs and vehicles. Wind this strong may break off large branches, knock over trees or cause structural damage to trees. Thunderstorms could also produce tornadoes, dangerous lightning and heavy rain to cause flash flooding.

Residents are advised to secure loose objects in their yards and on the exterior of their residences, including trash receptacles; to park their vehicles in driveways/garages rather than on the streets to avoid any damage due to street flooding; to keep streets clear for proper drainage and to allow for the passage of emergency vehicles. City staff will continue to monitor all roadway conditions; if there are areas of concern in your community, please call 281.403.8700.

Prepare now, be weather aware and remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Citizens are encouraged to follow the City’s official websites and social media outlets to receive timely, accurate information.
