UPDATE: From our partners at the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management: The City of Houston and Fort Bend County are responding to reports of an oil well incident in southwest Houston, near the Fort Bend County Toll Road and MCHard Road.
The incident has produced a petroleum-like odor. Presently, the situation has stabilized and does not present a threat to public health. However, winds may carry the unpleasant odor across the area. Residents who are sensitive to the odor should remain indoors until it has dissipated.
The Houston Fire Department is doing air monitoring along Lake Olympia Parkway and the Fort Bend Toll Road. There is no immediate danger to anyone in the area at this time. The strong smell may remain in the area for the next 24-48 hours as the issue is contained.
A gas well blowout has occurred in the vicinity of Texas Parkway and Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road. The Houston Fire Department is working to coordinate containment of the issue.
